Ashanti Regional REGSEC bans use of motorbikes after 7pm until further notice

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced strict security measures following the fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase, at Asewase on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

In a statement signed by Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene and issued on Friday, July 25, 2025, the Council expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.

The measures, which take immediate effect, include:

1. A ban on motorbike movement after 7:00 pm until further notice.

2. Prohibition of unlicensed motorbikes or those without lights.

3. A temporary suspension of the ongoing inter-tribal football competition.

4. A ban on the wearing of smocks by motorbike riders, as the attire has reportedly been used to conceal weapons.

The statement further indicated that police and military personnel will intensify patrols in hotspot areas to prevent further unrest and protect lives and property.

“We urge the public to support ongoing investigations and provide credible information to aid in apprehending those responsible,” the statement added.

The REGSEC reaffirmed its resolve to ensure law and order in the Ashanti Region and called for calm among residents.
